Interlock tiles and paving in Dubai

Paths, paving, driveways and walls are the bones of a garden. We design them in 3D with the planting, lighting and pool, then build them with our own team.

THE HARD

The hard surfaces that hold a garden together

Hardscape is everything in a garden that is built rather than grown: interlock and paving, paths and stepping stones, driveways, garden and boundary walls, planters and steps. It decides where people walk, where cars park, where water runs off and how the planted areas are framed. It is also the part that is most expensive to change later, because pipes, cables and drainage run underneath it. At OutMazed® Design paving and walls are part of landscaping scope and are designed together with the softscape, lighting and any pool, so services go in first and the surfaces are finished once.

WHAT WE

What we build

01

Interlock paving

Interlocking concrete pavers laid on a compacted base, suited to driveways, parking and large paved areas because individual blocks can be lifted and relaid.

02

Paving and outdoor tiles

Stone or porcelain paving for terraces, seating areas and pool surrounds, where a smoother, more finished surface is wanted.

03

Paths and stepping stones

Continuous paths for everyday routes, or stepping stones set into lawn, artificial grass, gravel or planting for a softer line.

04

Driveways and parking

Hard standing for cars, laid to take the load and to fall towards drainage.

05

Garden and boundary walls

Boundary walls for privacy, feature walls with cladding, retaining walls where levels change, and low walls that separate zones.

06

Planters and planter walls

Raised planters built into walls and seating, so planting sits at a height where it can be seen and looked after.

WHAT TO

What to decide in the design

  • How each area is usedA driveway, a pool surround and a garden path carry very different loads and need different surfaces.
  • Falls and drainageEvery paved area has to shed water somewhere other than against the house, into the pool or onto the neighbour's side.
  • Heat underfootDark surfaces in full sun become very hot in a Dubai summer. Colour and placement matter most around the pool and where people walk barefoot.
  • LevelsThresholds from the house, steps between zones and the height of walls are set early so the garden reads as one level plan.
  • Services underneathIrrigation pipes, lighting cables and drainage are laid, with sleeves, before paving closes over them.
  • Walls and privacyWhich views to block, which to keep, and whether a wall should also carry planting, seating or lighting.
GARDEN WALLS

Garden walls that do more than enclose

Boundary, cladding and planter walls

A garden wall can be plain boundary, or it can carry the design. On Project Miracle in The Villa the scope included a redesigned boundary wall alongside the gazebo, pergola and pool. On Projects Bold and Alpha in Damac Hills 2, wall cladding gave the outdoor areas a finished backdrop, and on Project Murano in Al Furjan a planter wall was built with a floating bench and underlights.

Designing the walls in 3D with the rest of the garden means their height, finish and lighting are agreed before they are built, along with any planting or seating attached to them.

STEPPING STONES

Stepping stones in smaller spaces

Stepping stones are not only for large gardens. On Project Celine in Mudon a stepping-stone pathway ran through natural landscaping and greenery, and on Project Greens the balcony was turned into an outdoor retreat with custom stepping stones set within planting. In tight spaces a line of stones gives a route without paving over the green.

HOW WE

How we deliver it

01

Project Study

A free site visit to check levels, existing paving and walls, drainage, access and what has to stay.

02

Plan

Surfaces, routes, falls and wall heights are set, with services drawn underneath. We confirm which approvals the work needs in your community, particularly for boundary walls, and apply for them.

03

Visualization

You see paving colours, patterns and walls in 3D with the planting and lighting around them.

04

Execution

Our in-house team prepares the base, lays services, builds walls and lays paving in the right order.

Duration depends on the work; you receive a programme after the site visit.

WHAT CHANGES

What changes the cost

The main drivers are the paved area and wall lengths; the material and finish chosen; whether old paving, soil or walls have to be removed first; the base needed for the load, which is heavier for driveways; level changes, steps and retaining walls; the amount of cutting around curves, stepping stones and edges; cladding or lighting on walls; and access for materials and machinery. A quotation follows the site visit.

FAQ

Questions and answers

What is interlock paving?

Interlocking concrete pavers laid on a compacted base so they lock together under load. Because single blocks can be lifted and relaid, it suits driveways and areas where services run underneath.

Interlock or tiles for the area around the pool?

Both are used. The surface beside a pool should be comfortable and safe underfoot when wet and not too hot in the sun, which matters more than the paving type. We help you choose on the site visit.

Can you rebuild or raise my boundary wall?

Boundary wall work often needs community approval, which we apply for ourselves. What is allowed depends on the community.

Can stepping stones go into artificial grass?

Yes. The stones are set first and the grass is cut around them, as on Projects Bold and Alpha.

Can you replace paving without redoing the whole garden?

Yes, though it is a good moment to add sleeves for irrigation and lighting under the new surface.

Do you build driveways and parking?

Yes. Driveways are part of our landscaping scope.

Will the paving and walls match the rest of the garden?

They are designed in 3D with the planting, lighting and any pool, so you approve them together.

Is the site visit free?

Yes. The site visit is free.
