What a smart thermostat does
A thermostat tells the AC when to cool and when to stop. A smart thermostat does the same job but is connected to your home network, so you can see and change the temperature from an app, set schedules for each day, and in some models let it learn the times you usually adjust it. In Dubai, where the AC runs for most of the year, that control matters. Rooms that are empty during the day do not need to be cooled to the same level as a bedroom at night, and a schedule or a quick change from the phone on the way home is easier than walking round the villa. Google Nest thermostats are a widely known example. Projects Beyond and Murano both included Nest thermostats: Beyond as part of smart home automation in a turnkey villa transformation in Dubai Land, and Murano as part of indoor and outdoor works in Al Furjan.

Compatibility comes first
Not every AC system takes every thermostat
Villas in Dubai use different types of air conditioning: ducted units with their own controllers, split units with remote controls, and buildings or communities on district cooling, where fan coil units are controlled locally. A Nest thermostat is designed for particular types of control wiring, so it works directly with some systems and not with others. Some setups need an adapter or interface, and some are better served by a smart controller made for that AC system.
That is why we check the AC units, their existing controllers and the wiring at the site visit before recommending a product. If Nest suits your system, we install it. If not, we explain what does suit it, so the end result is the same: control from the wall and the phone, with schedules that fit how you live.
