LVT flooring in Dubai

LVT, or luxury vinyl tile, is vinyl made as individual planks and tiles with a realistic wood or stone design. Its flexibility makes it the vinyl most suited to patterns and precise detailing.

WHAT LVT

What LVT is, and what makes vinyl 'luxury'

The word luxury is a product category rather than a promise. LVT stands for luxury vinyl tile, and it separates individual planks and tiles from sheet vinyl on a roll. Each piece is built from layers: a backing, a vinyl core, a high-resolution printed film and a clear wear layer, usually with a protective surface coating. Many products add an embossed texture that follows the printed grain, so the surface feels closer to real wood or stone. Because the pieces are separate, they can be laid as planks, as tiles, or cut and combined into herringbone, chevron and borders. LVT is mostly flexible, which is the key difference from rigid-core SPC.

GLUE-DOWN OR

Glue-down or click

01

Glue-down (dryback)

The traditional form of LVT. Thin pieces are bonded to a smooth screed. Very stable once laid, quiet underfoot, and individual pieces can be replaced. Suits patterns, borders and commercial spaces.

02

Click LVT

Thicker flexible planks with locking edges that float on an underlay. Quicker to lay, but needs a flat base and is less suited to complex patterns.

03

Loose lay

Heavy planks that grip the floor by weight and friction, mostly used in commercial areas where pieces need lifting for access.

WHERE LVT

Where LVT suits a Dubai home or office

  • Kitchens and family roomsWater-resistant and soft underfoot, comfortable for standing and forgiving with dropped glasses.
  • ApartmentsThin and quiet, so it can renew a floor with little change in height and little footstep noise.
  • Patterned floorsHerringbone and bordered layouts at a lower cost and lower risk than wood in busy rooms.
  • Offices and retailCommercial grades handle chair castors, foot traffic and frequent cleaning.
  • Less suitedRooms with intense direct sun on a floating floor, and showers or wet rooms, which need tile or stone over waterproofing.
PREPARATION DECIDES

Preparation decides the finish

Smooth, dry and clean

Glue-down LVT is thin and flexible, so it reproduces whatever is beneath it. Old tile grout lines, small cracks or trowel marks can appear as lines across the floor in low-angle light. We remove or fill and then smooth the base with a levelling compound before laying, and check that the screed is dry enough for the adhesive.

Strong sun through large windows warms the surface and makes vinyl expand. Adhesives and layout are chosen with that in mind, and blinds help protect the colour over time. Edges finish at skirting or with trims at doors. Where the floor is part of a bigger job, it is laid within a villa or apartment renovation and planned with the other finishes.

FAQ

Questions and answers

What does LVT stand for?

Luxury vinyl tile. It covers vinyl made as individual planks and tiles, as opposed to sheet vinyl.

What is the difference between LVT and SPC?

LVT is generally flexible and often glued down. SPC has a rigid stone-plastic core and clicks together as a floating floor, so it tolerates a less perfect base.

Is LVT waterproof?

The vinyl itself resists water, so it suits kitchens. It is not a replacement for waterproofing in showers or wet rooms.

Can LVT be laid over tiles?

Yes, once the grout lines are filled and the surface is smoothed so they do not show through.

Can I have herringbone in LVT?

Yes. Glue-down LVT is well suited to herringbone, chevron and borders.

How do I clean LVT?

Vacuum or sweep to remove sand and mop with a mild cleaner. Avoid harsh solvents and rubber-backed mats, which can mark some vinyls.

How long does it take?

It depends on the work and the base preparation. We give you a programme after the site visit.
