Interior painting in Dubai

Inside a home, every surface asks for something different. We prepare and paint walls, ceilings, doors and woodwork so that each finish suits the room it is in and the wear it will get.

INTERIOR PAINT

Interior paint is a set of different jobs

A bedroom wall, a bathroom ceiling, a stair handrail and a kitchen splash zone may all be painted in the same week, but they are not the same job. Each surface has its own substrate, its own problems and its own demands once the room is back in use. Interior painting done well starts with reading those surfaces: where plaster has hairline cracks, where a ceiling has a water stain, where previous paint is flaking because it was put over dust or gloss. The finish is chosen afterwards, room by room.

SURFACE BY

Surface by surface

01

Plastered and block walls

Cracks are opened up and filled, patches are sanded flush and repaired areas are primed so the finish coat dries to an even colour and sheen.

02

Gypsum ceilings

Board joints and screw heads must be invisible, because light grazing across a ceiling shows every ridge. Coves and bulkheads are cut in cleanly where they meet the walls.

03

Bathroom and kitchen areas

Steam and splashes call for moisture-resistant finishes. Any black mould is treated and its cause looked at, not just painted over.

04

Doors, frames and skirting

Timber and MDF are sanded and primed, then finished in a harder paint than the walls so that they stand up to hands, shoes and vacuum cleaners.

05

Metal handrails and grilles

Rust is removed and a suitable primer applied, since ordinary wall paint does not hold on bare metal.

06

Previously painted gloss

Old gloss is keyed by sanding before a new coat goes on; otherwise the new paint can peel away.

HOW WE

How we prepare a room

The order is the same in every room, and it is where most of the time goes.

  • ProtectFloors, fixed joinery, sockets and anything that stays in the room are covered or masked.
  • Inspect and repairCracks, holes, loose plaster and damp patches are marked and dealt with.
  • Sand and cleanSo the new paint bonds to a sound, dust-free surface.
  • PrimeBare plaster, filler, new gypsum and stains get a primer or sealer before colour.
  • Cut in and finishEdges first, then the main areas, usually in more than one finish coat.
  • Snag and clean upTouch-ups, removal of masking and a clean room handed back.
CEILINGS AND

Ceilings and lighting

Where interior paint is judged most harshly

Cove lights and downlights wash light across ceilings and walls at a shallow angle. That is good for atmosphere and hard on paintwork, because any roller mark or uneven filler shows up as a shadow. When a ceiling is getting new lighting, we plan the painting with it, so the surface is prepared for the way it will be lit.

In Project Bold in Damac Hills 2, the scope included ceiling painting together with wallpaper and carpeting, so ceiling, walls and floor were finished as one scheme rather than as separate trades.

FAQ

Questions and answers

Which sheen should I use on interior walls?

Matt hides imperfections and suits most living spaces and ceilings. Eggshell or satin is easier to wipe and suits corridors, children's rooms and kitchens. We recommend a finish for each room in the Plan stage.

Why is my old paint peeling?

Usually because it was applied over dust, damp, or a glossy surface that was not sanded. Peeling paint is scraped back and the cause dealt with before repainting.

Can you paint over dark colours with light ones?

Yes, but it usually needs a primer or extra coats to stop the old colour showing through. We allow for it once we have seen the walls.

Do you paint new gypsum ceilings and partitions?

Yes. New gypsum needs joints finished, sanding and a primer before the top coats.

Will the paint smell for days?

Paints differ, and low-odour options are available. Rooms also need ventilation while they dry. We discuss this if the home stays occupied.

How long will interior painting take?

It depends on the number of rooms, their condition and the preparation needed. We give a programme after the site visit.
