A pool that belongs to the garden
Emaar Community Management describes the villas of The Lakes as detached homes on generously proportioned plots, with views of the surrounding lakes and open green spaces. On a plot like this, the pool is rarely just a pool. It is the centre of an outdoor area that includes a deck to sit on, shade for the afternoon, somewhere to change and shower, and often a second, smaller body of warm water. Planning these together decides where the pool sits, which way it faces and how the rest of the garden flows around it. The pools shown are from other Dubai communities.
What a poolside in The Lakes can include
The pool
Skimmer, overflow or infinity edge, in concrete or fibreglass, sized to the plot and how you swim.
Jacuzzi or spa
Set into the pool edge or standing alone near the house, for use in the cooler months.
Deck and steps
Non-slip paving or decking around the water, with floating steps or a wet deck where they suit.
Shade
A pergola or gazebo on the sunny side so the deck stays usable after midday.
Outdoor shower and changing
An outdoor shower by the pool, or a pool house where the garden has room.
Lighting
Underwater and deck lighting so the pool is safe and attractive after dark.
Where to put the pool
- Sun through the dayWhether you want the water in sun for warmth or shade for comfort, and where the deck falls in the afternoon.
- The outlookWhere the villa looks towards a lake or open green space, the pool can be lined up with it so the view carries across the water.
- Distance from the houseClose enough to watch children and carry food out, far enough for splashes and noise to stay outside.
- Trees and rootsExcavation near mature trees is planned so roots and canopy are not damaged, and leaf fall into the pool is considered.
- Equipment and accessA hidden spot for pumps and filters, and a route for machinery into the garden.
Redoing an older pool
Refurbish or rebuild
Some villas in The Lakes already have a pool that is showing its age. Emaar Community Management's Emirates Living FAQ states that re-doing a swimming pool needs permission, through an NOC applied for under 'Home Modifications' on the community portal. We apply for it ourselves.
On the site visit we check the shell, tiles, coping, pipework and equipment, and advise whether a refurbishment is enough or the pool should be rebuilt to a new shape.

How the pool project runs
Project Study
A free visit to the villa: we measure the plot, study sun and outlook, inspect any existing pool and check how machinery can get in.
Plan
Pool, jacuzzi, deck, shade and equipment specified. We apply for the Emaar NOC.
Visualization
The whole poolside in 3D, by day and at night.
Execution
Built by our in-house team, with one project manager from excavation to handover.
Duration depends on the work. A programme is given after the site visit.
