Swimming pool construction in District One

District One's larger plots leave room for pools that are part of the architecture: an overflow edge facing the garden, a lap lane along a boundary, a spa beside the terrace. We design the pool with the villa and garden, then build it ourselves.

A PRIVATE

A private pool next to a lagoon

District One is built around a large crystal lagoon that, according to Meydan's real estate website, gives residents a beachfront at the centre of Dubai. So why add a private pool? Because it does a different job: water a few steps from the living room, shaded when you want it, used early in the morning or late at night without leaving the house. On the four- to eight-bedroom villas and mansions the community offers, a private pool is usually part of how the garden is organised, and its shape and edge are design decisions as much as engineering ones. The pools shown are from our projects in other Dubai communities.

POOL TYPES

Pool types that suit District One plots

01

Overflow pools

Water runs over one or more edges into a hidden channel, so the surface sits level with the deck. Suits Contemporary villas and formal terraces.

02

Infinity edges

One edge appears to disappear, which works where the garden drops in level or opens towards a view.

03

Lap pools

Long and narrow, often placed along a side boundary so the main garden stays open.

04

Skimmer pools

The familiar villa pool, simpler to build and maintain, in almost any shape.

05

Spas and wet decks

An outdoor jacuzzi beside the pool, or a shallow ledge for loungers and children.

06

Renovation

New finishes, edges, lighting or equipment for an existing villa pool.

DESIGNING THE

Designing the pool with the house

Edges, steps, light and shade

On a large villa the pool is seen from many rooms and from the upper terraces, so its position and proportions matter as much as its size. We look at how it lines up with the living room doors, where the afternoon sun falls, and where a pergola or gazebo can give shade to the shallow end.

Lighting is planned with the garden, not added afterwards: underwater lights, perimeter LED lines, lit steps and the garden lighting around the deck are drawn together and shown in the 3D model at night.

FAQ

Questions and answers

Is a private pool worth it when District One has a lagoon?

Many owners want both. The lagoon is a shared amenity; a private pool is used at any hour from the house, can be shaded, and is part of the garden design.

Can I have an infinity or overflow pool at my District One villa?

Usually, if the plot and levels allow the hidden channel and balance tank. We check this at the site visit.

Who approves a new pool in District One?

The community's master developer or management. We apply for the approvals ourselves.

Have you built pools in District One?

Not yet. The pools shown are from The Villa, Al Twar and elsewhere in Dubai.

Do you renovate existing pools?

Yes. We build new pools and renovate existing ones, concrete and fibreglass.

How long does a pool take?

It depends on the work. We give you a programme after the site visit.
