A pool sized to the garden, not the brochure
Meydan's neighbourhoods, according to Meydan's real estate website, include townhouse communities and four-bedroom semi-detached villas alongside larger homes. Gardens in this kind of housing are often deep but narrow, or wrap around one corner of the house. The pool decision there is less about style and more about proportion: how much garden is left once the pool, its deck and its equipment are in, and whether there is still room for shade and a place to sit. A smaller, well-placed pool usually gives more pleasure than a larger one that leaves a strip of paving round the edge. The projects shown are from other Dubai communities.
Pool types that suit compact Meydan gardens
Plunge pools
Short and deep enough to cool off in, they leave most of a small garden free. A good fit behind a townhouse.
Skimmer pools
The common villa pool, with water held a little below the coping and skimmers drawing it to the filters. Shapes can follow an L-shaped garden.
Fibreglass pools
A factory-made shell placed in a prepared excavation. Delivery needs a clear route for the shell, so it depends on how the plot can be reached.
Outdoor jacuzzis and spas
Where there is no room for a pool, a spa can still give the garden water to sit in.
Renovating an existing pool
New finishes, coping, lighting or equipment for a pool that came with the house or was added by a previous owner.
Constraints we check at a Meydan home
- Access for digging and concreteOn attached houses the side gate, if there is one, may be the only way in. It decides how excavation, spoil removal and concrete delivery are done.
- Distance to the house and shared wallsThe pool has to sit clear of the house and neighbouring foundations, which often sets its maximum length.
- OverlookingUpper windows next door may look straight down on a pool. Screens, pergolas or planting are placed with that in mind.
- Plant roomPumps and filters need a ventilated, accessible spot that does not take the most useful corner of the garden.
- ApprovalsA new private pool normally needs approval from the community's master developer or management. We find out which applies to your home and apply ourselves.
Planning the pool and garden together
Steps, deck and shade in one drawing
In a compact garden the pool, the deck and the shade structure are one design. We decide the entry steps, the width of the deck on each side, where the loungers go and how the pool lighting relates to the garden lighting before any excavation. The 3D model shows you the pool from the living room and from the upper floor, which is how you will see it most of the time.
Concrete pools give full freedom of shape and finish. Fibreglass shells come in set shapes and sizes. Both are built by our own team, and we explain on the visit which one your plot and access suit.
