MINI GOLF

Mini golf at home, not at a venue

Most people searching for mini golf in Dubai are looking for somewhere to play, and the city has plenty of indoor and outdoor venues. This page is for villa owners who want the game at home. A backyard putting green is a patch of specialised synthetic turf over a carefully prepared base, with one or more holes and some gentle slopes to read. It can be a practice green for a serious golfer, a few holes for the children, or a playful mini golf course with obstacles that the whole family uses on cool evenings. Because it uses synthetic turf, it stays green through the summer and needs far less water than a natural lawn, which makes it a practical feature in a Dubai garden as well as a fun one.

OPTIONS FOR

Options for a backyard green

01

Practice putting green

A compact green with a few cups and subtle breaks, for practising pace and line. Often built close to the terrace so it gets used.

02

Putting and chipping area

A green with a fringe of longer turf around it, so short chips can be played onto it from the surrounding garden.

03

Family mini golf

A winding route of short holes with borders, bridges or simple obstacles, designed for children and guests rather than practice.

04

Green integrated with the lawn

The putting surface shaped into a wider artificial grass lawn, so it reads as part of the garden rather than a separate pad.

05

Green with a feature

A green that wraps around planting, stepping stones or a water feature, which adds character and natural hazards.

WHAT MAKES

What makes a good putting green

Base, contours, drainage and sun

The surface is only as good as what lies under it. The ground is excavated, compacted and built up in layers so the ball rolls true and the green does not settle unevenly. Contours and breaks are shaped into the base before the turf goes down; they should be gentle, as small slopes have a big effect on a putt. Water must drain through and away, otherwise the occasional heavy rain or irrigation spill leaves puddles and soft spots.

Putting turf is different from landscaping grass: it is shorter and denser so the ball rolls rather than stops. In strong sun synthetic turf gets hot, so shade from trees, the villa or a pergola nearby makes the green usable for longer, and lighting lets you play after sunset when the garden is at its most pleasant. Placement also matters: keep the green away from the pool edge and from areas where sand and leaves collect.

FAQ

Questions and answers

Do you build mini golf venues?

This service is about private putting greens and mini golf in villa gardens. If you are looking for a place to play, Dubai has several public venues.

Is synthetic turf for putting different from normal artificial grass?

Yes. Putting turf is shorter and denser so the ball rolls smoothly, while landscaping turf is longer and softer. Many gardens use both, with landscaping turf around the green.

How much space does a putting green need?

A useful practice green can be quite compact; a mini golf route needs more room. We look at what your garden allows at the site visit.

Will the green get too hot in summer?

Synthetic turf heats up in direct sun. Shade nearby and playing in the morning or evening make a big difference, and lighting extends play after dark.

Can the green have slopes?

Yes. Gentle contours are shaped into the base before the turf is laid, so you can practise reading breaks.

Does a putting green need watering?

Synthetic turf does not need irrigation to grow, which is one reason it suits Dubai. It still needs occasional cleaning to remove sand and debris.

How long does it take to build?

It depends on the work. We give you a programme after the site visit.
