A PLAYGROUND

A playground at home

Dubai has many public playgrounds in parks and communities, and indoor play centres for the summer. This page is about a different thing: a play and recreation area built into your own villa garden. Done well, it gets children outside every day without a drive, and it can be planned so it still works as they grow, with a swing or play structure today that can give way to a games lawn, a basketball hoop or a hangout space later. The difference between a garden with some play equipment in it and a real play area is the planning: a safe surface under everything, shade over it, clear sightlines from the house and the terrace, and a layout that keeps play away from the pool edge and the BBQ.

WHAT A

What a home play area can include

01

Swings and play structures

Swings, slides, climbing frames and play towers, placed with the clear space around them that safe play needs.

02

Soft play surfaces

EPDM rubber flooring or artificial grass over a shock pad under equipment, to cushion falls and keep the area clean.

03

Sand and water play

A covered sandpit or a simple water play feature for younger children, set away from the main lawn so sand stays where it belongs.

04

Games lawn and courts

Open artificial grass for football and running, or a hard surface with a basketball hoop for older children.

05

Shade and seating

A pergola, sail or tree canopy over the play zone, with seating for parents nearby.

06

Playful garden features

Stepping stones, a playhouse, a trampoline set into the ground or a mini putting green.

WHAT TO

What to decide in the design

Safety, sightlines, shade and growing up

Safety comes first. Equipment needs a clear zone around it and an impact-absorbing surface underneath, not paving or bare soil. Edges and corners in the play zone should be soft or rounded, and the area should be separated from the pool by a fence, a level change or at least a clear distance, so a ball or a running child does not end up at the water's edge. Slides and play equipment also get hot in direct sun, so shade is a safety question as well as a comfort one.

The best place for a play area is usually visible from the kitchen, the living room and the terrace, so younger children can play while adults are inside. We also plan for change: a play structure can stand on a surface that later suits a trampoline, a games area or a quiet corner, with power and lighting already in place.

HOW WE

How we deliver a play area

01

Project Study

A free site visit to see the garden, the space available, sun and shade, and to understand the children's ages and how the family uses the garden.

02

Plan

We agree the layout, equipment zones, surfaces, shade, fencing and lighting, and we apply for any approvals your community requires for structures.

03

Visualization

You see the play area in 3D in your own garden, including sightlines from the house, before anything is built.

04

Execution

Our in-house team prepares the base, lays the surfaces and builds the area, with a dedicated project manager as your single point of contact.

FAQ

Questions and answers

Do you build public playgrounds?

This service is about private play and recreation areas in villa gardens. For public play, Dubai's parks and communities have many playgrounds.

What is the safest surface under play equipment?

An impact-absorbing surface such as EPDM rubber flooring, or artificial grass laid over a shock pad. Hard paving and bare ground are not suitable under equipment.

Can the play area be next to the pool?

It can share the garden, but it should be clearly separated by distance, a fence or a level change, and laid out so balls and running children are kept away from the water.

Will the equipment get too hot in summer?

Equipment and surfaces in direct sun can get very hot. Shade over the play area and the right materials make it usable for more of the year.

Can the play area change as the children grow?

Yes. We plan the base, surfaces and services so the space can later become a games lawn, a court or a seating area.

Do you add swings to existing gardens?

Yes. Swings and play features can be added to an existing garden or included in a full garden redesign. Project Casa Colonia includes swings as part of its outdoor scope.

How long does it take?

It depends on the work. We give you a programme after the site visit.
