A pool on a family plot
Al Twar's standalone villas give pool design more freedom than a typical townhouse garden. The plot belongs to one house, the boundary wall already gives privacy, and there is often space to place the pool where it suits the garden rather than wherever it fits. The trade-off is that older plots come with their own constraints: an existing pool that has aged, foundations and services of different ages, palms whose roots spread further than expected, and a front garden that also has to hold the family's cars.

Water feature and sunken structure
On Project Majestic, a full transformation of a villa in Al Twar, the outdoor area was reimagined around a pool with a cascading water feature. Beside it sits a unique sunken structure for relaxation and gatherings, which brings seated guests close to the water, and a gazebo gives a shaded place to sit nearby.
A line of stepping slabs runs along the pool, tying it into the rest of the garden. Designing the pool, the sunken seating and the paths together is what lets them read as one space rather than separate additions.
Pool options for an Al Twar villa
Skimmer pool
A practical family pool with the water just below the coping, simple to look after.
Overflow pool
Water level with the deck and spilling into a channel, for a calm, flat surface on a formal garden.
Pool with a water feature
A cascade, spout or wall that adds sound and movement, as on Majestic.
Sunken seating
A lowered lounge beside the water for gatherings.
Jacuzzi or plunge pool
On its own for a smaller garden, or alongside a main pool.

Pool approvals in Al Twar
Al Twar is not run by a master developer, so the developer NOC that applies in many gated communities is not the route here. Dubai Municipality's published services include approval of public and private swimming pool drawings, which it describes as ensuring compliance with technical, engineering and safety standards.
