EPDM and rubber flooring for gardens in Dubai

We lay EPDM and rubber flooring in Dubai villa gardens, under play equipment, in home gyms and along paths, as part of a designed outdoor space rather than a patch of colour on its own.

WHAT EPDM

What EPDM and rubber flooring are

Rubber flooring outdoors usually means one of two things. EPDM is a synthetic rubber made into coloured granules, mixed with a binder and trowelled in place to form a seamless, slightly springy surface; it is common in playgrounds, school yards and around play equipment because it cushions falls. Rubber tiles and mats are pre-made, often from recycled rubber, and laid over a hard base; they are typical in gyms and training areas. Both are slip resistant when wet, drain or shed water well when laid correctly, and stand up to foot traffic. In a villa garden they make sense wherever children play, people train, or a softer, non-slip surface is wanted than paving.

WHERE RUBBER

Where rubber flooring works in a villa

01

Under play equipment

The main reason families choose it: a cushioned surface under swings, slides and climbing frames instead of paving or bare ground.

02

Home outdoor gyms

Rubber tiles or a thicker EPDM layer absorb impact from dropped weights and make bodyweight training more comfortable.

03

Around the pool

A non-slip surface near the water for children's areas, provided the colour and position are chosen with sun and pool chemicals in mind.

04

Paths and running tracks

A soft path or loop around the lawn for scooters, bikes and running, laid in colours that suit the garden.

05

Patterns and games

EPDM can be laid in shapes and colours, such as hopscotch, tracks or letters, set into a wider play area.

TYPES OF

Types of rubber surface, in general terms

  • Poured EPDMColoured granules and binder trowelled in place over a prepared base; seamless and shaped to any outline.
  • Two-layer systemsA thicker shock-absorbing base layer under a coloured EPDM wearing layer, used where fall protection is needed.
  • Rubber tilesInterlocking or bonded tiles over concrete or paving; quick to lay and easy to replace in sections.
  • Rubber matsHeavier mats for gym areas, laid loose or fixed over a level slab.
WHAT TO

What to decide before it is laid

Base, thickness, colour and heat

Rubber flooring follows the surface beneath it, so the base is where a good result starts. It must be firm, level or set to an even fall, and able to let water drain away, typically concrete, asphalt or a compacted granular layer depending on the system. Edges need a kerb, a border or a neat transition to grass and paving so the flooring does not lift or fray.

Thickness depends on use: areas under play equipment generally need more cushioning than paths or gym floors, and the height children could fall from is the main factor. Colour matters in Dubai because dark rubber in full sun gets very hot, so lighter colours and shade over the area make it more comfortable. We plan where the flooring meets artificial grass, decking and paving so the garden reads as one design.

HOW WE

How we deliver rubber flooring

01

Project Study

A free site visit to measure the area, check the existing ground or slab, levels and drainage, and understand how the space will be used.

02

Plan

We agree the type of surface, thickness, colours, edges and how it fits around equipment, lawns and paths.

03

Visualization

The area is shown in 3D in your garden with its colours and shapes, so the layout is settled before the base is prepared.

04

Execution

Our in-house team prepares the base and lays the flooring, with one project manager as your single point of contact.

WHAT CHANGES

What changes the cost

  • Area to be covered
  • Base preparationBuilding a new base, or laying over an existing slab.
  • System and thicknessSingle-layer EPDM, two-layer systems or tiles.
  • Colours and patternsPlain areas cost less than multi-colour designs.
  • Edges and borders

FAQ

Questions and answers

What is EPDM flooring?

EPDM is a synthetic rubber. For flooring it is made into coloured granules, mixed with a binder and laid in place to form a seamless, cushioned and slip-resistant surface.

Is rubber flooring better than artificial grass under play equipment?

Both can work if they absorb impact. EPDM gives a firm, seamless surface that is easy to keep clean; artificial grass over a shock pad feels more like a lawn. Many gardens combine them.

Does rubber flooring get hot in Dubai?

Yes, especially in dark colours and direct sun. Lighter colours and shade over the area help a great deal.

Can rubber flooring be laid over existing paving?

Often yes, if the paving is sound, level and drains properly. Otherwise the base is prepared first. We check this at the site visit.

Is it slippery around the pool?

Rubber flooring is generally slip resistant when wet. Its position near the pool is planned with water run-off and sun in mind.

Can you lay it in patterns and colours?

Yes. Poured EPDM can be laid in shapes and colours, such as tracks or games, which are shown in the 3D design first.

How long does it take?

It depends on the work, including base preparation and curing. We give you a programme after the site visit.
