Two different starting points
According to the DSO website, one of the four Cedre villa types is offered with a private swimming pool, while Semmer Villas share community swimming pools. In practice that gives two kinds of pool project in Dubai Silicon Oasis. The first is renovating a pool that is already there: a finish that has aged, steps that take up too much water, lighting that no longer works or a plain rectangle the family has outgrown. The second is adding a pool to a garden that never had one, where the questions are space, access and approval before anything else.
Pool types that suit DSO gardens
Skimmer pool
The most common villa pool, with the water a little below the coping and skimmers on the side. Simple to build and to look after.
Plunge pool
A small, deeper pool for cooling off, which fits a townhouse or twin-villa garden where a full pool would take the whole space.
Fibreglass pool
A factory-made shell set into the ground. It needs a clear route to bring the shell to the garden, which we check at the site visit.
Concrete pool
Built in place, so the shape and size follow the garden rather than a catalogue. It suits awkward plots.
Outdoor jacuzzi
A spa on its own or built into the pool edge, for gardens with room for little else.
What decides the pool before it is designed
- Garden size and shapeHow much space remains for seating, shade and planting once the pool and its deck are drawn in.
- Access for excavationIn a gated community, the route for machinery, spoil and materials often decides the build method.
- Existing servicesDrainage, irrigation and cables under the garden, and the distance from the villa's foundations and boundary walls.
- Plant room positionWhere pumps and filters can sit out of sight and earshot of bedrooms and neighbours.
- Sun and privacyWhich part of the pool is shaded in the afternoon and how it is screened from neighbouring windows.
Renovating an existing Cedre pool
Keep what works, change what does not
An existing pool shell that is sound rarely needs breaking out. A renovation can renew the interior finish and coping, rework steps, add a wet deck or bench, upgrade lighting and equipment, and redesign the deck and garden around it so the pool feels like part of a new outdoor space.
We look at the shell, the equipment and how the pool is used before suggesting anything, and show you the result in 3D first.
