Fitting a pool into a Mudon garden
Dubai Properties describes Mudon as a community of villas, townhouses and apartments set amidst parkland, and its Arabella phase as townhouses with gardens. In a townhouse the living room usually opens straight onto the garden. A pool can work there, but it changes the garden from a lawn with a patio to a pool with a deck, so the first question is what you will give up. On larger villa plots there is more freedom, but access for digging and the position of the pump room still decide much of the design. We answer those questions on the site visit.
Pool types for Mudon plots
Plunge pool
Short and deep, for cooling off, leaving room for seating and some green.
Compact skimmer pool
A rectangular pool along the back or side boundary, with a deck towards the house.
Spa or jacuzzi
On its own, or built into a small pool, for year-round use.
Wet deck or tanning ledge
A shallow step inside the pool where children can play and loungers can sit in the water.
Renovation of an existing pool
New finishes, coping, lighting and equipment, or a reshaped pool.
What the plot decides
- AccessWhether a small excavator can reach the garden; if not, the dig is by hand and soil leaves in bags.
- Distance to the house and wallsFoundations and boundary walls set how close the pool can come, together with the community's rules.
- Pump and filter positionSomewhere ventilated and serviceable, away from bedroom windows next door.
- PrivacyHow visible the pool is from upper windows nearby, and whether planting or screens help.
- Garden left overSpace for shade, planting and a dry seating area.
Approvals in Mudon
A new pool needs approval before work starts, and some renovations do too. In Mudon this sits with the community's master developer or management, and requirements depend on the scope. We prepare the drawings and apply for the approvals ourselves.
