Lit skimmer pool at dusk with sun loungers and a rendered arched wall behind, Project Jewel, The Villa

Swimming pool construction in The Villa

Two of our pools are in The Villa: a 3.5 x 7 skimmer pool at Project Jewel and a 9 x 4 skimmer pool with a glass corner at Project Miracle. Here is how we approach a pool in this community.

A POOL

A pool that belongs to the garden

In The Villa a pool is rarely a stand-alone job. It sits in a back garden framed by rendered walls and arches, usually close to a terrace or covered seating area, and it changes how the rest of the garden is used. That is why we design the pool, its deck and the planting together. On Project Miracle the pool overlooks the seating area; on Project Jewel it sits within new landscaping, with covered parking built in the same project. Whether you want a new pool or want to renovate one an earlier owner built, the questions are the same: where it sits against the sun and the house, how big it can be without swallowing the garden, and how the machinery and the pool equipment fit. For villa pool construction elsewhere in Dubai, see our main swimming pool construction in Dubai page.

POOL TYPES

Pool types that suit gardens in The Villa

01

Skimmer pools

The water sits below the edge and is drawn through skimmers. Both of our pools in The Villa are skimmer pools.

02

Overflow pools

Water runs over the edge into a channel, giving a flat sheet of water level with the deck.

03

Plunge pools

Small and deep enough to cool off, for gardens where a full-length pool would leave too little lawn.

04

Jacuzzis and spas

Built in beside the pool or on their own near the terrace.

05

Concrete or fibreglass

We build both. Concrete allows any shape and detail; a fibreglass shell is factory-made and needs a clear route into the garden.

DETAILS THAT

Details that make a pool fit the villa

Glass, light and what you see from the terrace

Project Miracle's 9 x 4 skimmer pool has a glass corner and overlooks the seating area, so the water is part of the view from where the family actually sits. Details like that are decided in 3D, from the terrace and from inside the house, before excavation.

The pool's surroundings matter as much as the shell: the coping and deck colour against the villa's render, shade from a pergola or gazebo, lighting in and around the water, and where the pump and filtration equipment sit. On Miracle the water pump was relocated as part of the works.

WHAT WE

What we check on a villa before proposing a pool

  • Access for excavationHow an excavator, or a fibreglass shell, can reach the back garden, and where spoil can be loaded.
  • Existing pool, if there is oneWhether the shell can be renovated with new finishes, lighting and equipment, or should be rebuilt.
  • Distance from walls and the houseSpace between the pool, the villa and the boundary walls, and what lies under the ground there.
  • Sun and privacyWhich part of the garden gets sun in the afternoon and what neighbouring windows overlook.
APPROVALS FOR

Approvals for a pool in The Villa

The Villa is a Dubai Properties development, according to the developer's website, and Dubai Holding lists Dubai Properties among the developers whose communities its community management arm looks after. A pool is a structural change to the garden, so it needs approval before excavation. We confirm which approvals apply to your villa and apply for them ourselves, then start work once they are in place.

FAQ

Questions and answers

Have you built pools in The Villa?

Yes. Project Jewel has a 3.5 x 7 skimmer pool and Project Miracle a 9 x 4 skimmer pool with a glass corner, both in The Villa.

Can you renovate the pool that came with my villa?

Yes. We renovate existing pools as well as building new ones, and we check the existing shell and equipment on the site visit.

Concrete or fibreglass for a garden in The Villa?

We build both. Concrete suits custom shapes and details such as Miracle's glass corner; a fibreglass shell needs clear access into the garden.

Do I need approval to build a pool in The Villa?

Yes, a pool needs approval before work starts. We confirm what applies to your villa and apply for it ourselves.

Can the pool and garden be done in one project?

Yes. We design them together in 3D and build both with our own team.

How do you build a swimming pool in The Villa?

We start with a free site visit, design the pool and garden together in 3D, confirm and apply for the approvals, then our own team excavates and builds the shell, followed by the finishes, lighting and equipment, and the deck and planting around it.

How much will a pool cost?

It depends on size, type, finishes, equipment and access. We give a quotation after the site visit and the agreed design.
